Privacy Policy

No tracking
BookLike contains no analytics, no advertising, and no tracking of any kind. It does not know who you are, what sites you visit, or what you read.
EPUB download
EPUB files are generated entirely on your device — the article content is never sent to BookLike's servers. If you choose to include images, the URL of each image is sent to BookLike's image proxy so it can be fetched and embedded in the file. Images are processed in memory and are not stored or logged. Requests are routed through Cloudflare's infrastructure; Cloudflare may log request metadata (IP address, timestamp) in accordance with their privacy policy.
To enforce a fair-use monthly limit on image proxying, a randomly generated anonymous ID is stored locally on your device. It contains no personal information and is used solely for rate limiting — it is not linked to any account or identity.
Dictionary and pronunciations
From version 1.3. The dictionary is bundled with the extension, so looking up a word happens entirely on your device. The word is never sent anywhere.
Pronunciation recordings are the exception, as they are too large to bundle. Pressing play sends the word to audio.booklike.app to fetch its recording, and nothing else. Words with no recording are spoken by your browser's built-in speech synthesis, which makes no request at all. These requests are routed through Cloudflare's infrastructure; Cloudflare may log request metadata (IP address, timestamp) in accordance with their privacy policy.
Once you have played one pronunciation, BookLike fetches recordings ahead of time for the words you look up next, so the play button responds instantly. Those words reach audio.booklike.app even if you never press play. This applies only to the article you are reading — closing the reader resets it, and if you never press play, no word is ever sent.
The credits link beside a pronunciation opens booklike.app/credits with the word appended as a URL fragment (#word). Fragments are resolved by your browser and never reach the server.
Version 1.2 and earlier. Looking up a word sent it to a third-party dictionary API, api.dictionaryapi.dev, to retrieve its definition. Looked-up words were cached in memory for the duration of your session to avoid redundant requests, but were never persisted or logged.
Preferences
Your reading preferences (font, font size, theme, etc.) are saved locally on your device and never sent to BookLike or synced across devices.

- storage
- Saves your reading preferences and anonymous rate-limit ID locally on your device.
- contextMenus
- Adds a "Read in BookLike" option to the right-click menu.
- api.booklike.app
